“one of the highest erotic experiences of my life.”

Bonnie Raitt on recording “I’m in the Mood” with John Lee Hooker

Hello all

I first heard this song “I’m in the Mood” in 1990, when I first brought the album “The Healer”, as a 23-year old I didn’t really think much of it, blues wasn’t the sort of music I was growing up with. So 30 years later, I decided to start a blog about music and sharing my experiences with my ever-growing collection. In doing this I pick the albums randomly, and out came John Lee Hooker ‎– The Healer it nearly went back in the pile, but I decided in doing this blog I am going to come across these sort of albums.
So what has changed, well I am 30 years older, my musical tastes have changed and broaden so much, back then I knew nothing about blues, and now I know a little bit more, but it a form of music I like to get to know more about.

For me its one of the highlights of the album, its got some great guitar from both Bonnie Raitt and John Lee Hooker, but its the tempo to the song, it just sings sexy to me.

The song was original recorded by John Lee Hooker in 195, and Hooker claimed that the song was inspired by Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood”.
Bernard Besman the producer, overdubbed two vocals by Hooker, one of the first times that technique had been used on the record, which I think gives it a very eerie sound.
