A big Welcome to Tony Smith from Sounds of the Suburbs record store to A Frankie View.

What music are you currently listening to?

Guess the most played album of the moment, must be Nothing for nothing, the new album from Plague Uk.

This is from Plague UK previous album Vaccination

2- CD, Streaming or Vinyl?

I never stream, vinyl if I’m in the shop, cd at home and in the car.

What, if push comes to shove, is your all time favorite album?

Alternates between 2, Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, or The Jam, All Mod Cons.

The Jam I think I would of got, but not Bowie.

What was the first record you ever brought? And where did you buy it?

I been asked that many times, and I really can’t remember, if it was a single, probably Ewins radio in East Acton, album, I really don’t know.

Owning a record shop, I bet you get asked all the time.

Yes, and I thought long and hard, memory is just shot.

What do you sing in the shower?

Ha, that could be different every day, all sorts of stuff come into my head at any time.

What is your favorite Saturday night record?

Again, that can change with mood, if we are talking clubbing, something like Earth Wind and Fire, Fantasy, or anything by Chic, if we’re talking rock, then it’ll be something like Anarchy in the UK or Pretty Vacant.

And your Sunday morning record?

Something a bit more chilled, something to ease into the day, I would say, Legend Bob Marley hits the spot.

Do you know what was number one in the UK the day you where born?

No, I have not looked it up before, but obviously not memorable, 1961, not going to be anything exciting.

You have introduced me to some great new bands, that I would not of know about if it wasn’t for you, for example, Dirt Royal and The Gyrators, so thanks for that, anything else coming out that I may like?

I believe the Subsetters are working on an album, that would certainly be up your street Ska with And indie feel, they call there sound Skindie, a band to check out for sure.

Blur or Oasis?

Oasis

Bob Dylan or Bob Marley?

Bob Marley

The Jam or The clash?

The Jam

Sex Pistols or The Damned?

For the body of work, The Damned, for sheer impact, Pistols

Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder?

Marvin

The Specials or Madness?

Madness

Talking to a Specials Fan as well🀣

Yes, love the Specials, but again, going on body of work.

Thanks so much for doing this, is there anything you want to add?

Not too much, only from a shop perspective, the shop does sometimes get pigeonholed as a punk shop, but like my tastes, it has far more diversity, and I probably need to put that over more.
Thanks, mate

Its not just a punk shop, I know that, as I am not really a big punk fan, and have found some great stuff in there especially in the reggae section. Also looking forward to when all this madness is over, when you get some groups in, really enjoyed them.

A little PS from me, if anyone is in the Ruislip area, it’s worth popping in, as you never know what you are going to find, and Tony is a great bloke. Sounds of the Suburbs record store
