“You have to, take a deep breath. and allow the music to flow through you. Revel in it, allow yourself to awe. When you play allow the music to break your heart with its beauty.” – Kelly White

Hello all

Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. Their primary focus is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos they call Songs Around The World.
I do like the way they do these videos, and I was sent a link, of one featuring Dr John last Sunday. Song Around The World version of the New Orleans classic and Mardi Gras favourite, “Iko Iko.” This song features Dr. John in one of his last known recordings, along with the Grateful Dead’s Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, New Orleans’ luminaries Ivan Neville, Donald Harrison, and George Porter, Jr., and more. Uniting musicians from Central Africa’s Congo to New Orleans’ Congo Square, this video serves to reconnect hearts and minds around the world through music.

Sunday afternoon was spent with VK Lynne ‎– Black Halo, great power and control in that voice. Bank Holiday Monday was spent at the BBC with Steel Pulse ‎– Handsworth Revolution – The BBC Sessions, these brought back great memories of me as a teenager, taping the John Peel show. While mid-week listening was Corinne Bailey Rae ‎– Corinne Bailey Rae, I would not be as harsh as Vanessa Gomez, when she called “it dull as dishwater”, but I can see where she is coming from, as I was finding I was just getting a little bored of it, while on my way to work.

Friday after work I popped into Sounds of the Suburbs records, Tony explained to me that 2 stores events, keep Saturday 19th of June, and Sunday 18th of July free, one is a return visit, the other has a debut album to promote, he is saying no more until posters are produced, Watch this space for further details.
But this is all subject to Boris roadmap.
Friday night was spent with some nice cool cider, and UB40 ‎– Present Arms, an album from my school days, which got me thinking, growing up listening to One in Ten and Ghost Town, we should all be on anti depressions, these songs were not painting a pretty picture of the outside world. Lynval Golding from The Specials has announced that they are going back into the studio to start on a new album. At the moment there is 4 of us planning to go to the 2 Tone: Lives & Legacies, not set any dates yet.

I started watching The Madness docuseries “Before We Was We is” , have seen the first two episode, well worth the watch, I really like the way they have done this.

Saturday morning reading with black coffee was provided by Loving the Music with his feature about Lake Street Dive, thanks to Andrew another band added to the list.

Paul Eveleigh Saturday morning listening was John Martyn – Air, an album that has also been recommended to me by Steve Wildes. I explained over Facebook I was listening to Lake Street Drive, which got us talking about Hall and Oates, who Lake Street Drive had covered, and ending up with Paul posting a great video of Cee Lo Green Live From Daryl’s House, it sure looks like they are having fun.

Well, I got to pop up to Manner butchers and get me some chicken, which I am going o marinate in my own garlic and herb blend, and make my own Italian style salad dressing, and let all the flavour, oozes into the oil and vinegar.

Stay safe all, and have a good week.

Oh, I also listened to the below, on my way to work.

I have always been putting together these playlists, I normally make up a playlist from a variety of different music genres and see if they fit together. So lately I have restricted myself to the albums I have posted about and have decided to share them with you, as we did in the old days with tapes

The only way I can think of sharing playlists these days is with something like Spotify, so above is some of what I have been listening to this week.
