“As a singer I tried on all these hats, these voices, these clothes, and eventually out came me.”- Carly Simon

Continuing on from A Frankie View – Female Vocals -2 , and my love for female vocals continues.

I explained the other day where five female musicians will release a cover of the classic ‘Temple Of The Dog – Hunger Strike,’ in honour of World Hunger Day.

Leah Martin-Brown (Evol Walks), VK Lynne (The Spider Accomplice), Alex Nicole Windsor (Shiragirl), Raine Palladino (Shiragirl), and B.B. Kates (The Drained) met through Gritty In Pink, a community to empower women in music.
The founder of Gritty In Pink, Shira Yevin has a legendary history of breaking down barriers and carving out a space for women.

After observing the void of females performing at the Vans Warped Tour, the band Shiragirl drove their pink RV into the gates, set up across from the skate ramp, and crashed the tour. They earned an invite from Warped Tour Founder Kevin Lyman to return and create an official stage for female artists, a pink truck stage that hosted 300+ bands, including Paramore and Joan Jett.

The Shiragirl Stage received widespread media attention, was coined “Gritty In Pink” in the press, and earned Shiragirl a spot in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Warped Tour exhibit.

I have been listening to the below playlist on my way to work this week, and I find myself yet again enjoying it with a nice cold bottle of cider, in the man cave, and just taking it all in.

Enjoy all.
