“Soul music is timeless.” – Alicia Keys

Hello There

Last month I wrote about finding, Italo-Congolese vocalist Sans Soucis, and her debut single “Every Night“., and how it was the tone in her voice that hooked me, well the adventure continues, with her second single “They Asked Me to Stay”, which was realised a year later in July 2018.

From her Bandcamp site: “They Asked Me to Stay” comes straight from a memory of a short night spent in the slums around the city of Lusaka, Zambia. The rhythm guitar and vocal set up an intimate scene, gently supported by a jazz influenced trio. An Afro-Soul composition that takes you back to the most primal of human conditions: listening, observing, understanding and loving.

This song is a mellower, simpler song than her debut, but it has a more mature sound to it. I am just looking forward to more from this artist, I need more than 2 songs from her to enjoy my Saturday morning coffee with.

The sound quality is not the best in this next video, but shows this artist can do it live as well.

Fruitless Fact: Sans Soucis draws inspiration from a number of genre-defying artists including Frank Ocean, Joni Mitchel, Lauryn Hill, James Blake and St. Vincent, Sans Soucis fuses classic song-writing with melancholy and hope.

For the geeks: I brought the Flac files from Bandcamp.
