A big Welcome to John Murphy to A Frankie View.

What music are you currently listening to?

These days there’s no particular type of music I listen to it depends on what I’m doing, if I’m working I stick on Radio 2 as it has a wide choice of music at home whilst cooking however I’ll ask Alexa for either Motown, Old School hip-hop or believe it or not classic Rock n Roll

CD, Streaming or Vinyl ?

I’ve got roughly 5/600ish Vinyl stored away, streaming not too often so it’d have to be CD but only in the car.

What, if push comes to shove, is your all time favorite album?

If push came to shove it’d be UB40’s signing off

What was the first record you ever brought? And where did you buy it?

I was given a £5 gift voucher for i think it was HMV or our price for my birthday, I thought I was rich 🀣🀣, I bought Signing off album, Tenpole Tudors Swords of a Thousand Men on single and The Ramones Baby I love you single, felt absolutely great that I could buy my own records

What do you sing in the shower?

🀣🀣🀣 gotta be anything by Elvis or Johnny Cash, if Elvis then mostly Such a night, if Johnny Cash its gotta be Folsom prison blues, they’re also my go to Karaoke songs so have to practice

What is your favorite Saturday night record?

Right this is a hard one, I love all types of music so to pick a record is a difficult one, I suppose if I was just chilling with a brandy it’d be something like the Temptations My Girl.

If I’ve been football had a few beers and a bit lively it’d be something like Madness One Step Beyond

And your Sunday morning record?

If I get up feeling good the song that springs to mind that I’d bounce around the kitchen singing its Common People by Pulp, hungover sipping coffee then Fleetwood Mac Need your love so bad

Do you know what was number one in the UK the day you where born?

I always thought it was San Francisco (be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) so I just checked, one website says it is another says All you need is love, I thought San Francisco could’ve been the U.S number 1 but it turns out that Light my Fire is the US #1

Blur or Oasis?

Oasis.

Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash?

Wow now that’s difficult, I think because of the fact Johnny Cash went more gospel in the latter stages of his career I’d go Elvis.

Madness or The Specials?

Specials as I think there’s more of a reggae/ska sound to their music.

The Clash or The Police?

The Clash, not too keen on either truth be told but prefer more of The Clashes music than The Police.

Bob Dylan or Bob Marley?

I love reggae however I used to hear my oldest sister playing these great tunes when I was a kid found out it was Bob Dylan and T Rex, thought both were brilliant and started listening to more of those, as I knew a lot of Bob Marley and, because of my liking of reggae I’ll go with Bob Marley

Thanks so much, very interesting stuff, knew you liked reggae, you are like my brother in law he likes a bit of Johnny Cash as well. I must have a listen.

Thanks for asking me, having grown up in an Irish family I was brought up on Country & Western & Rock n Roll, as mentioned my biggest sister was into Dylan and T Rex then I just started listening to all sorts, although I’ve always dressed as a Skinhead/Rudeboy it’s more because I think it’s a very smart, not particularly because I’m into the music if anyone saw me walking down the road dressed like a skinhead and knocked my iPod themed be shocked mate coz there’s everything from Val Doonigan to the Sex Pistols on there 😁, look after yourself mate and stay safe.

Thank you John Murphy, stay safe.
